At Care at Home, we keep a running list of favourite “field trip” locations for our home care clients and staff. Last weekend, some of the Care at Home team took an outing to the Muttart Conservatory, which continues to be a beloved destination. The conservatory is a gem in our city – especially in the winter months when the warmth of the Tropical Pyramid offers a trip to the jungle, without the need to update all your shots!

Ruth loves sitting in the Tropical Pyramid: “I really enjoy sitting and listening to the water in the stream.” She does say that she’s happy to avoid the smell when the Putrella plant is in bloom. “To each their own, I guess!” she laughs.

At Care at Home by Exquisicare, we love the Muttart Conservatory because it is such an accessible facility for those in wheelchairs or who use walkers. There are plenty of spots to sit and rest, or just to enjoy the wonderful greenery and flowers.

Bill tells us how much the Arid Pyramid reminds him of winters past spent visiting Arizona and Southern California. ‘It reminds me of golfing in the desert outside of Phoenix. But here, I’m not worrying about the sand.” Although he’s not golfing anymore, Bill still loves the memories that the Muttart brings back.

This holiday season, the Muttart is offering “A Blue Christmas” in the Feature Pyramid (runs until January 8). It is an explosion of beautiful poinsettias and artful Christmas decorations. One of our favourites was the piano waterfall in the exhibit. We’re already looking forward to the annual Chinese New Year feature exhibit – this year “From Asia With Love” runs January 13 through March 4 and it never fails to disappoint!

Of course, a trip to the Muttart wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Culina Café! Although we’re still harbouring small grudge that they dropped the Jamaican porridge off their brunch menu (It was Bill’s favourite), their treats are still a great way to end a visit to the Muttart. Enjoy greens and herbs right from the Muttart greenhouse and from May to September, there is an outdoor patio to bask in the sun.
